ArtSpace Focus Groups and Action Teams

Document's keeper:  Board Chair

To see when the board group meetings are scheduled, please consult the
board calendar.  This is the board's calendar specifically, and not the school calendar, of course!  Please note that many group and team meetings are by invitation from the group or team leader.  Feel free to ask the leader if you wish to be involved.

The ArtSpace Board of Directors should define its operations and the scope of its influence by the focus groups around which it is organized, as carried out through the work of the teams beneath each focus group.

Focus groups consist primarily of board members and/or appointees to regular session attendance (such as the Executive Director and the FTA chair), although others may be invited to participate as needed to achieve board objectives.  Focus groups make sure the teams are doing the work that the board has indicated needs to be carried out.  They also consolidate ideas and planning in order to make recommendations for direction to the board, so that the board can use its board meeting time more efficiently.

Action teams may consist of anyone, within or outside the school, as determined by the head of that action team.  Board members need not lead all the action teams, but each action team should have at least one board member on it who is also a member of the corresponding focus group.  The action teams actually carry out or implement the direction of the board, and make recommendations to the board for direction through the respective focus group.

No action should generally come before the board except in matters of personnel that doesn't fall within the group structure of the board. If the board feels that its work scope needs to expand, it can decide as a group to do so.  This is a guideline to help us stay focused - not a policy or hard and fast rule.

Focus groups may meet and compose distilled recommendations to the board as a whole, so that the board can take action on those recommendations and direct the corresponding action teams under the focus group to carry out the approved plan.

Each team should meet no less frequently than once per semester.  Most teams will need to meet more than that.
